Counselling & Psychotherapy

Don't mute your INNER VOICE - It's who you really are.

Counselling and psychotherapy for individuals in a safe, comfortable and private setting.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website.

My name is Younes Hussein and I am a counsellor /psychotherapist providing therapy to adults and young people in the Long Lane Wood area of Croydon, near to Elmers End and Shirley Oaks.

I have been training as counsellor/psychotherapist since 2013. I have gained Diploma in integrative Counselling and a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am also in ongoing professional training to increase and expand my skills. My counselling/psychotherapy approach is essentially person-centered, psychodynamic and transpersonal focusing on the uniqueness, potentiality and self-empowerment of the individual.

I also draw on my knowledge and understanding of the psychodynamic (transference), Gestalt, Transactional Analysis (TA) and Cognitive approaches to counselling and psychotherapy.

Principally' my approach is holistic and emphasises the importance for each individual of finding his or her own meaning, values and inspiration in life. I do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, physical disability, gender or sexual orientation.

I am also a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and abide by their code of ethics.

Making the decision to see a counsellor is a big step to take - but it can be a positive one. Please read on to find out more about how I could help you.

My Practice

Both my academic studies and my training ' I have worked with young people aged 11 to 18 years of age and above. Having worked as a child and adolescent counsellor has contributed towards considerable positive changes in my own self-awareness, confidence and maturity, and increasingly I have found I have been able to make positive changes in the lives of young people there. It is rewarding to see my efforts being part of the team support for the ‘trauma healing process for these youngsters.

With the support of my Manager there, I have learned to deal with trauma cases, risk/competence assessment and considerably complex ethical dilemmas while maintaining professional boundaries.

I have also worked people who cannot speak English, including rough-sleepers, refugees and asylum seekers, which has broadened my experience of their problems and given me further insight into how they might best be assisted. During my work I have used IAPT NHS services for young people(and Adult) with anxiety disorders ,depression, child abuse, bereavement, emotional difficulties, relationship problems, sexual problems ,stress, and domestic abuse.

Sessions for individuals last approximately 50 minutes, usually taking place on a weekly basis, and cost between £50-£65 per session.

I work from a private practice room located near the Long Lane Wood, Shirley Oaks and Elmers End areas of Croydon in Longheath Gardens. I am less than 15 minutes from central Croydon where plenty of public transportation is available.

How therapy can help

Life brings many challenges, and it is understandable that at times we might look for support in facing them. As a counsellor my role is to provide space and guidance to help you on your journey of self-discovery; to enable you to examine your life and make new, meaningful choices within it.

I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives - and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Counselling isn’t about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes.

As an integrative therapist, I draw upon different therapeutic models when working with a client in a session to suit their individual needs. Person-centred work is focussed on empathy, a non-judgemental approach and providing emotional support; everyone has a built-in motivation to reach for their full potential, but sometimes need a bit of support to get there!
